The Washoe County School District (WCSD) has launched a new online portal for submitting your Notice of Intent (NOI) to Homeschool, making the process more convenient for families. You can now file your NOI online at the WCSD Homeschool Portal. This is an optional tool to streamline submission, but you are not required to use the portal. You can still mail or hand-deliver your NOI to the WCSD superintendent, as allowed by Nevada law.
Important Reminder: Under NRS 388D.020, the NOI form must follow the standard format provided by the Nevada Department of Education and cannot include additional requirements beyond what the law specifies (e.g., child’s name, age, gender; parent’s name and address; educational plan; and a signed statement of responsibility). When using the WCSD portal, carefully review the form to ensure no unrequired items are added. If you notice any discrepancies, please let us know.
Nevada law (NRS 388D.020) protects your right to homeschool with minimal requirements:
- File the NOI before starting homeschooling, within 10 days of withdrawing from public school, or within 30 days of establishing Nevada residency.
- Schools must accept a complete NOI without requesting extra information.
- The NOI is a one-time filing unless your name or address changes or your child re-enters homeschooling after public school enrollment.
For full details, refer to NRS 388D.020. If you have questions about the portal contact WCSD Extended Studies at 775-353-6994.
